How much homework is there in 3rd grade?
Third Grade Homework Policy:

·20+ minutes of daily reading practice (and a reading log to record and analyze their reading habits in order to set new goals for themselves)
--Students should get into the habit of jotting meaningful post-it notes while reading.

·Up to 10 minutes of other written homework daily



What will the homework look like?

Students will receive a packet of homework each Friday that will contain math, reading, writing, word study pages and science or social studies pages. The packet will be due the following Thursday.



How can students extend their learning?
We have subscriptions to IXL ("I excel"), mathletics, and RAZ kids. Students can always log onto their account and continue to practice and build on their knowledge. Students are also welcome to visit the Curriculum pages where there are links to several other learning activities, videos, and more.




Who is responsible for the homework?

Student Responsibility
  • Transport homework to and from school
  • Complete all homework on time
  • Ask for help if they do not understand
  • Up to 30 minutes of homework including 20 minutes of reading (More reading is encouraged)

  • Show their parent their Weekly Report and Assignment Tracker each weekend and ask their parent to sign it.

Parent Responsibility

·Provide appropriate time and space
·Support the development of a routine (schedule)
·Monitor your child’s reading log and goals
·Review your child’s work and notes from school
